Venice can seem rather confusing to those who have just arrived and impossible to find your way around! There is a risk of getting stuck in congested areas between the Rialto Bridge (Ponte di Rialto) and St.Mark’s Square (Piazza San Marco) or the Doge Palace (Palazzo Ducale) and the Bridge of Sighs (Ponte dei Sospiri), and this can make it hard to appreciate your surroundings.
We want your first taste of Venice to be a positive one and so we have created this special Welcome tour to Venice, which we highly recommend you join. Our friendly local guide will introduce you to Venice in a fun relaxed way. With our guide, you will discover how the Venetians still live in Venice City Centre. You can take time to look at what interests you, explore hidden and surprising corners, see unusual views and taste typical local cuisine. You will learn the the history of Venice, how it came to be created and its glorious past. Your questions and observations will be the focus of the tour!

Venice tour guide: itinerary from the Train Station
From the meeting point in the Santa Lucia station area opposite the Grand Canal, the tour will begin in the Santa Croce district and then reach Campo Santa Margherita where we will stop for a coffee in one of the most popular Venetian pastry shops.
We will walk through the Venice of the Venetians, browse typical shops and see glimpses of daily life and the business of the different narrow streets. We can observe the passage of daily life which could go from dealing with high water and all that comes with it, to preparing for Carnival celebrations, to going to school or work. We will see the incredible number of boats on the Grand Canal to the continuous evolution of the lagoon environment.
From Campo Santa Margherita we will head towards the Rialto area, the commercial center of the city, where we will be able to observe the city life around the bustling Rialto market, where most Venetians do their shopping for fish, fruits and vegetables. This area is a key location where you can really begin to understand the nuances of Venetian life.
The visit will end at the T-Fondaco shopping center, which occupies a splendid Venetian palace in the heart of Venice with well-known high end boutiques. This is a special shopping centre with an amazing viewing terrace from the very top of the building. We will go up to this platform to admire the view and take memorable photos before ending our tour.
Venice tour guide: Itinerary from Riva degli Schiavoni
The Welcome walking tour of Venice can also start from Riva degli Schiavoni, in front of the Hotel Metropole. We recommend this option to those staying near St Mark’s square: in fact, the starting point is just a 3-minute walk from St Mark’s basilica and Palazzo Ducale.
If you take the tour in this part of Venice we will explore the beautiful Castello district, one of the most loved area by Venetians, who still largely inhabit it. We will discover the local life happening in the artisan workshops around Campo della Bragora and go in to see what they are creating in the heart of the district towards Campo Santa Maria Formosa. You will get to understand how the names of Venetian streets reflect the business that was carried on there. Finally we will reach Rialto market before concluding our tour here.
The Welcome tour is a private tour, hence can start at your most convenient time, anywhere in the City Centre and be customised based on your interests. Our local guides will make every effort to personalize the tour based on the desire of the participants.
