Civil wedding in Venice: Simplified Administrative Procedures

Italian Civil wedding is recognized in the USA.

US and Australian citizens are required to provide the following documents before the wedding ceremony:

  • An affidavit issued by the US or Australian Consulate in Italy, which must then be legalized by the Prefecture.
  • An affidavit issued by the Italian Consulate in the USA or Australia.

Marriage in Italy for UK citizens is also fully recognized.

British citizens must provide the following documents before the wedding ceremony:

  • A certificate of “no impediments” issued by the British Registry Office, complete with an apostille and an official translation.
  • A bilingual affidavit executed before a British notary public, also bearing an apostille.

British citizens residing in Italy or outside the United Kingdom may submit the certificate of no impediment issued by the British Consulate in Italy.
