Masked Ball: Saturday 31st January in the Salone del Ridotto in Venice

Choose to celebrate the start of Venice Carnival with dancing, entertainment and an elegant dinner in the most authentic atmosphere of Venice Carnival.

On Saturday 31st January we are waiting for you in a place truly ‘out of time’: the Salone del Ridotto (now part of the Hotel Monaco & Grand Canal), the heart of the sumptuous Venetian carnivals of the 18th century, a place loved by nobles, gamblers and adventurers.

Inspired by Giuseppe Verdi’s opera “Un Ballo in Maschera” (Ballo in Maschera), you will experience a Carnival evening that will take you back in time. Imagine stepping through the doors of the magnificent Salone del Ridotto, the same venue that hosted the great Venetian carnivals for six months of the year in the 17th and 18th centuries.

Dressed in period costume, you will be transported by the elegant atmosphere of a ball from another era, with Baroque music and group dances. No need to be an expert: under the guidance of the dance masters, you will learn the basic steps of the group dances of the European courts of the time and be able to move in harmony with the other guests.

It will not only be a party, but a journey into the heart of Venetian tradition, an opportunity to have fun, meet people and breathe in the authenticity of a Carnival that continues to live on in its historic locations.

A delicious four-course dinner will be served with regional wines. The main courses are seafood-based.

Masked Ball: costume hire

Those who do not have their own period costume can choose a ticket with costume hire, which can be booked in the atelier in the historic centre of Venice for one day (on request it is possible to extend by one day at a special rate).

Costumes are of two categories according to the work carried out, STANDARD and SUPERIOR.

The costume categories:

  • STANDARD: period costumes inspired by European fashion of the 1700s and 1800s with quality fabrics and trimmings. Created in Venice, they are unique models not mass-produced.
  • SUPERIOR: more elaborate period costumes inspired by the fashion of the European courts of the 1700s and 1800s with fine fabrics and trimmings. Unique models not mass-produced and made in Venice.

Examples of period dresses can be found in this CATALOGUE.

Costume hire includes

Men: the costume plus all essential accessories (shirt, jabot, tights, shoe bows).

Woman: the costume plus all essential accessories (panier or cages, petticoats) and any accessories that are part of the costume itself (strangles, handbags, brooches, etc.).

All other accessories are not included in the price: masks, wigs, hats, capes, etc. are separate but not compulsory, with costs varying depending on the model.

The choice of costumes is made directly at the atelier, where the tailors can make any changes to the chosen outfits.

After the purchase you will receive an email from the atelier to make an appointment for choosing and trying on the costume shortly before the date of the event.

We are waiting for you at this masked ball to enjoy an evening of Carnival dancing in the best Venetian tradition!
