Deciding between the Venice Hop on Hop off boat and the ACTV vaporetto may seem a difficult decision for tourists visiting Venice for the first time. The former is a little more expensive for 48 hours for adults, but offers the convenience of getting on and off at various attractions without having to queue. The price for 24 hours is instead the same.
Note that the hop on hop off boat offers a price range for 6-11 year olds, which the regular boat does not (a child older than six has to pay full price).
In our experience, not to be underestimated is the fact that the Vaporetto can be really crowded during rush hours and sometimes you have to stand in line for a long time to catch it.
So our advice if you want to visit the city and the islands in comfort is to choose the Hop on Hop off boat service. You will save time and get to know Venice and its lagoon in many interesting details that you might miss without the support of the audio guide.
