Walking Tour ‘Venice of the Venetians
With this walking tour you will discover the ‘Venice of the Venetians’, the most authentic and least known part of the island.
With your guide, you will set off on a walk to discover the Castello district, the most authentic part of Venice.
You will admire the grandeur of the Venetian Arsenal and listen to its fascinating history; this is where the real power of the Serenissima resided, here the galleys that won the battle of Lepanto were built.
You will enter the Giardini, the great green lung of the city wanted by Napoleon, today home to the Biennale and a public park for the whole city. You will appreciate how various city associations have converted unused places such as an old 19th-century greenhouse; and of course, you will see some local handicrafts.
Continuing your walk, you will pass by the most original bookshop in Venice, hidden in a small Venetian courtyard: the Libreria Acqua Alta. Not far from the beautiful Church of Santa Maria Formosa, you will discover a unique place that conveys the soul of the city.
Here, Luigi has found a very original way to try to curb the problem caused by the high water phenomenon. The books are placed on a disused boat, a gondola and other floating elements. The library exudes originality in all its other elements as well and is one of those places you will want to return to at the end of the tour. An inside visit is not guaranteed!
Starting point: Vaporetto stop Giardini Biennale ‘B’ – link to location on Google Maps.
End of the tour: Rialto area.
Schedule: from 3.30 p.m. with a duration of about 2 hours.
