- What to see in Concordia Sagittaria:
The ancient Roman port of Concordia Sagittaria, or Iulia Concordia, preserves an exceptional heritage, that you can admire with a nice stroll in the centre: the thermal baths, the theater, the walls are all well preserved. For archeology enthusiasts, the new Archaeological Area is a must and definitely worth the price of the entry ticket (6 Euro, which includes the entry to the precious Archaeological Museum of Portogruaro too). Last but not least, the Cathedral of Santo Stefano, that in ancient times housed the bishop’s chair. From Concordia it is possible to reach Portogruaro on a comfortable cycle- and walking path along the river Lèmene, among relaxing views of nature and Venetian villas. Your ticket will allow to cover that distance by bus.
- What to see in Portogruaro:
A border town between Friuli and Veneto, Portogruaro is rich in history. It was founded by the Venetian merchants, for whom it was an important economic junction due to the still visible presence of the mills. It is characterized by a crooked bell tower but also by its medieval gates, through which you can access the center. We suggest to walk along the narrow streets that with a typical herringbone pattern converge towards the heart of the town: the charming river port, Piazza della Repubblica, Palazzo del Comune and the typical Guelph battlement from the Middle Ages. The cafes that dot the pedestrian boulevard will invite you to a stop. Another area of relaxation is the the green Parco della Pace, ideal for a pic nic.
