Discover the magic of Venice with a very special gondola ride: an exciting boat trip on the city’s canals with real musicians on board! A serenade on a gondola is definitely a cliché! But if you are staying in Venice, it would be a shame not to experience it!

Cruising the canals of Venice on a gondola is a romantic way to discover the most hidden and inaccessible sides of the city, unlike a guided tour. Think of the beauty of the historic buildings that you can admire from this privileged perspective. You will notice the entrance gates of some of the buildings, witnesses of another time, which directly overlook the canal.

Let yourself fall under the charm of the warm atmosphere of the music and the gondola gliding over the water of the canals.

Gondola ride Venice and the Santa Maria del Giglio area

With this exclusive half-hour tour, you will discover the wonders of the historic center.

You will share a gondola with other participants. A small fleet of gondolas, accompanied by musicians, will depart from Campo Santa Maria del Giglio. (a short distance from the Basilica of San Marco, La Fenice Theater).

itinerary gondola ride Venice music includedThe romantic gondola ride begins on the Grand Canal, where the most elegant palaces such as Palazzo Gritti, Palazzo Venier dei Leoni (home to the famous Peggy Guggenheim collection) and the baroque church of La Salute are located.

The tour is particularly interesting because it doesn’t go through St. Mark’s Square or the Rialto Bridge, but takes you to discover an authentic and hidden Venice!

You will walk along part of the Grand Canal and then you will enter the small canals of Venice, less known but more evocative and complex. From here you will be able to see the accesses to the noble palaces through the canals, see secret gardens and hear the Venetians talking through the windows!

The itinerary includes the Ponte delle Ostreghe, or Oyster Bridge in English. This is where fishermen moored their boats at dawn after a night of oyster fishing and sold them to the locals, who came by the hundreds every day.

A visit through the small canals of Venice

This itinerary takes you along the smaller canals of Venice and finally on the Canal Grande, one of the three main canals of the city. These other small waterways are not officially called “canale” in Venice, but “rio“, which means “river” in Italian. There are about 150 of these “rii” that form the stretched canvas of the city, over which only small boats can pass.

Venice was and still is essentially a set of small islands divided by these waterways; these islands are connected by the 340 bridges that surround the city, without which it would be impossible to get around.

The idea of building a city on swampy waters may seem strange to foreigners and a question that intrigues many visitors is: what is underneath the city’s buildings? The answer is simple: stilts. In fact, Venice is built entirely on wooden stilts, set in the sandy ground below.

This is how the first inhabitants built their houses on what must have been an inhospitable area. Although the water is not the cleanest, it is replaced every six hours by the tide, which comes from the coastal rivers, ensuring a constant renewal of water in the lagoon.

Gondola ride: between tradition and romance

The gondola ride is something to do at least once in a lifetime! What better opportunity to live an experience that can only be done in Venice? In the past, the gondola was mostly used by nobles, but also by other citizens, to move around the city.

These boats are a constant in the history of the Serenissima and are still used today to cross the lagoon. They are traditional wooden boats, propelled by the oars of expert gondoliers, using the techniques of Venetian rowing.

The beauty and majesty of the scene created by the water of the lagoon, the lights of the sunset, the musical accompaniment and the grace of this boat gliding through the canals, make this occasion a truly special moment full of emotions!

Even if it is not a private gondola ride, the elegance of the situation and the background music will leave you with unforgettable memories! After such a beautiful visit, why not combine this experience with another exciting adventure, such as a palace party or a candlelight dinner? We are at your disposal for any suggestion or advice!
