The Val Maggiore Canyon

  • Total elevation gain: 380 metres.
  • During the descent, there are no compulsory jumps exceeding one metre.
  • Difficulty level: medium, suitable for everyone, including first-timers, but with optional ‘variations’ that raise the difficulty level, such as a 30-metre independent abseil.
  • A basic level of comfort in the water is required.
  • There is a convenient car park at the meeting point where you can leave your car.

Canyoning Italy is at its best at Val Maggiore in the beautiful Dolomite mountains.

Some further information about the experience before you set off

  • Dives, slides and abseiling. The dives and slides encountered along the route are NEVER compulsory; for those who do not feel comfortable diving, there is always the option of abseiling; again, no prior experience or knowledge is required, and you can ask the guide to abseil you down.
  • Ropes and harnesses. The ropes are specifically designed for canyoning, suitable for use in water and highly resistant to abrasion. The ropes and harnesses used by the guides are certified to ‘European Conformity’ standards and UIAA (International Union of Mountaineering Associations) standards.
  • Wetsuits and booties. On arrival at the changing area, the guide will provide wetsuits and booties according to each participant’s size and explain how to put them on. First, put on the neoprene booties, then the wetsuit, followed by your shoes. Finally, put on the harness and helmet. All equipment provided by the guides is disinfected after use with specific antibacterial and antifungal products.
  • Glasses and contact lenses. Even if you can see well enough without them, it is always best not to take your glasses into the canyon; if you do, they must be tied with a cord and placed inside your wetsuit whilst in the water. Contact lenses are fine, but take care not to lose them if you plan to go for a dip.

Canyoning Italy: why the Dolomites?

The stunning landscape of the Dolomites is an incredible backdrop for this. You will see rolling hills in the distance, along with vineyards and green meadows that surround ancient settlements and walled villages.

The countryside of Val Maggiore is charming. When you are descending the walls of the mountain, with our Canyoning Nevegal tour you will arrive directly on the shores of Lake Santa Croce.

In Val Maggiore you will have both hours of fun and the chance to relax outdoor into the nature. This is definitely a unique experience that will allow you to live the mountain outside the ordinary paths.

You can alternate walks with refreshment breaks to taste local specialities, and visit  places of great historical and natural beauty. Ready to go?

Canyoning Italy – Do you know why the Nevegal is called this?

Mount Nevegal (neve= snow + gal= rooster in local dialect) intakes its name from the play of light and shadows that alternate on the mountain. The always snow-capped peak looks towards Belluno, but looking at the mountain in profile you can see the sun rising at dawn Hence the commonality with the rooster!
