Canyoning Dolomites: Val Maor the perfect route for everyone!

The canyoning route in Val Maor is ideal for anyone wishing to try their hand at canyoning and begin to discover this wonderful sport. It is certainly a unique gorge, suitable for anyone with even basic swimming skills.

The Val Maor gorge is a striking setting thanks to the continuous flow of its watercourse, which winds its way through an imposing gorge, lending the place a unique beauty. It offers a wide variety of route combinations to suit everyone.

The Val Maor Canyon

  • The canyon: although Val Maor does not feature any major abseils, it offers four long, narrow sections carved into very compact sedimentary rock.
  • Along the route: you’ll enjoy stunning examples of rock erosion and crystal-clear water, and discover a real gem of canyoning; along the descent you’ll encounter a few small drops, but none deeper than one metre are compulsory
  • Difficulty level: medium–easy, suitable for anyone with a basic level of water confidence.
  • When to go: recommended in spring and up to September for optimal water levels and temperature.

Some further information about the experience before you set off

  • Dives, slides and abseiling. The dives and slides encountered along the route are NEVER compulsory; for those who do not feel comfortable diving, there is always the option of abseiling; again, no prior experience or knowledge is required, and you can ask the guide to abseil you down.
  • Ropes and harnesses. The ropes are specifically designed for canyoning, suitable for use in water and highly resistant to abrasion. The ropes and harnesses used by the guides are certified to ‘European Conformity’ standards and UIAA (International Union of Mountaineering Associations) standards.
  • Wetsuits and booties. On arrival at the changing area, the guide will provide wetsuits and booties according to each participant’s size and explain how to put them on. First, put on the neoprene booties, then the wetsuit, followed by your shoes. Finally, put on the harness and helmet. All equipment provided by the guides is disinfected after use with specific antibacterial and antifungal products.
  • Glasses and contact lenses. Even if you can see well enough without them, it is always best not to take your glasses into the canyon; if you do, they must be tied with a cord and placed inside your wetsuit whilst in the water. Contact lenses are fine, but take care not to lose them if you plan to go for a dip.

Canyoning Dolomites: immerse yourself in a natural water park!

What is canyoning? Canyoning is a water sport that allows you to immerse yourself in the water and experience the thrill of descending from the mountain along a path that the water has carved over the centuries.

“It’s an experience for everyone that allows you to enjoy the beauty of the mountain from a completely new perspective!”

Unlike other sports that have a similar route, in canyoning you don’t use canoes, boats or other means of transport; it’s only you and nature and a route to follow on foot, immersed in the water! Along the way you can try your hand at overcoming gorges carved into the rock, clear waterfalls, natural slides and emerald pools!
