Venice Tour Guide: Our Guided Tour Suggestions

Castello: Authentic Venice to Discover
With your guide, you’ll leave St. Mark’s Square to enter the Castello district, where you’ll discover a more authentic Venice.
You’ll admire the grandeur of the Venetian Arsenal (external visit) and listen to its fascinating history; this is where the true power of the Serenissima resided, and where the galleys were built that won the Battle of Lepanto.
You’ll stroll through the Giardini, the city’s green lung envisioned by Napoleon, now home to the Biennale and a public park for the entire city. You’ll see how various local associations have revitalized unused spaces, such as a 19th-century greenhouse, and of course, we won’t miss the opportunity to visit some local artisan shops if you’re interested.
Venice: Between Sky and Sea
This tour takes place in the heart of the Serenissima, between Piazza San Marco and the Rialto (Venice city center) ! We’ll take you to see and experience Venice from three perspectives: from land, from the sky, and from the water.
To engage all our senses, starting with smell, we’ll begin the tour in the liveliest and oldest part, that of the Rialto and its market.
Like the Venetians, we’ll embark on a gondola to cross the Venice Grand Canal (optional). We’ll then enter one of the most famous Fondaco houses, with a panoramic terrace offering a 360-degree view of the city and its Grand Canal.

Venice from above: Giudecca and San Giorgio
Together, we’ll explore Palladio’s Venice, known for its literary salons and celebrity sightings, nestled between the islands of San Giorgio and Giudecca.
Starting from St. Mark’s Square, we’ll cross the St. Mark’s Basin to reach the island of San Giorgio. There, we’ll visit the sanctuary and monastery dating back to 829, featuring Palladio’s 1566 church. Inside, we’ll admire unique works by Tintoretto. From the bell tower, enjoy a panoramic view of Venice and its islands.
On Giudecca, we’ll discover more Palladian architecture. Fun fact: during World War II, this island housed the Cinecittà studios, where several films were shot.
Lastly, we’ll admire the majestic Molino Stucky building, once a mill and now a symbol of Venice’s industrial heritage. Conclude our tour with a cocktail at the Hilton hotel’s Skyline Rooftop bar (vaporetto ticket not included).

What is the story of Venice ?
Given Venice’s rich historical tapestry, exploring it with a tour guide adds depth and context to the experience. Venice’s history spans over 1,500 years, witnessing its rise as a maritime powerhouse and a hub of commerce, culture, and innovation. Founded in the 5th century AD on marshy islands in the Adriatic Sea, Venice flourished during the Middle Ages and the Renaissance, becoming one of Europe’s wealthiest and most influential cities.
Central to Venice’s story is its unique system of government, the Venetian Republic, which endured for over a millennium until its decline in 1797. Governed by a Doge elected by noble families, this system provided stability and fostered Venice’s growth as a center of trade, diplomacy, and cultural exchange.
Venice’s prosperity is evident in its magnificent architecture, including landmarks like St. Mark’s Basilica, the Doge’s Palace, and the Grand Canal. The city’s distinctive layout, with its network of canals, graceful bridges, and opulent palaces, continues to captivate visitors with its timeless allure.
Despite facing challenges such as wars, plagues, and the gradual sinking of its foundations, Venice persevered, showcasing resilience and adaptability throughout its history. With a knowledgeable guide, visitors can gain deeper insights into Venice’s fascinating past and appreciate the layers of history that have shaped this remarkable city.
