The visit to the Doge’s Palace
We will begin with the visit to the Doge‘s Palace. For hundreds of years, the history of the Serenissima Republic was decided within the rooms of this Palace.
With our special access ticket type, we will be able to skip the long line at the entrance!
You will be guided through the rooms where the most important organs of the Republic resided, such as the Great Council, the Senate, the Judiciary of Justice, and the Doge. The Doge and his Council would meet here to rule the Republic.
Inside these rooms, you will be able to admire some of the most important works by famous artists like Tintoretto, Veronese, Tiepolo, Titian, and more. During the tour, you will also visit the splendid Golden Staircase.
We will then proceed to follow the path of those convicted by the Republic, crossing the Bridge of Sighs and visiting the Prisons. Here you will learn how the prisoners of the Serenissima used to live. You will feel their anguish and sights as they were crossing the bridge and looking at the lagoon one last time before reaching their cell.
The visit to St. Mark’s Basilica
After the guided visit to the Doge’s Palace, we will walk through St Mark’s Square to reach St. Mark’s Basilica. This is considered one of the most beautiful cathedrals in the world and an emblematic landmark of Venice!
As the name might suggest, the Basilica is bound tightly to Venice Patron: Saint Mark; his remains are also found here. We will observe this extraordinary masterpiece of Byzantine art from the outside, our tour guide will explain the architecture and the mixture of styles which characterize the building and its facade.
If you later decide to enter the Basilica (not included in the tour), you will be bathed by the light reflecting on the golden mosaics. We will walk along the marble aisles and admire the high walls.
When we reach the high altar we will have the unique opportunity to admire the famous golden domes of the Pala D’Oro with thousands of gems and precious stones: this very moment will be one of the highlights of your visit to Venice Italy.
After the tour, don’t forget to visit the wonderful museo Correr (opening hours 10.00.am – 5.00 pm) and Clock tower.
