This is a very heartfelt occasion for young Venetians, who go around the city in small groups in the afternoon after school, around dusk. They sing a nursery rhyme and hitting pots and lids with wooden ladles, they ask passers-by and shopkeepers for some money. A very old local tradition that is also linked to a short pastry cake in the shape of a man on a horse, recalling the generosity of St Martin, who gave his cloak to a poor man!
